Why Dogara accepted Gbajabiamila -Namdas

Speaker of the House of Representatives finally yielded to the proposal by the All Progressives Congress (APC) on principal officers because he was duly consulted, a member of the House, Abdulrazak Namdas, has said.

Dogara had on Tuesday announced Femi Gbajabiamila as House leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa as chief whip, Buba Jibril as deputy House leader and Pally Iriase as deputy whip, after more than one month of refusal to do so following the nominations made by APC to that effect.
The announcement brought to an end, 49 days of crisis that followed Dogara’s emergence as speaker in June after defeating Gbajabiamila, the preferred  candidate of the  APC.
The party thereafter nominated Gbajabiamila for leader, Doguwa for deputy leader, Mohammed Tahir Monguno for chief whip and Pally Iriase for deputy whip.
Namdas, who is a member of the Consolidation Group loyal to Dogara said the speaker had to concede to the party following the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari who ensured that they were duly consulted on the matter.
“For all this while, we were not saying that Femi is not competent, but it was the manner in which the list came that we didn’t agree with. When the president said the party should consult us and the party did so, we felt that we should resolve the matter and forge ahead. Our leaders were duly consulted, that was why we all agreed. It was initially like a military fashion order, but now they know that we are all part of the decision,” he said.
